Brunching like a pro ๐Ÿ–’๐Ÿ–’๐Ÿ–’
.

I missed the simplicity of home cooked meals while I was travelling through The European winter. The fresh clean and nutritious range of produce available in Australia is amazing, especially during summer ...it's like a gourmet food store every day ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ’๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ„๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‹๐ŸŠ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿง€๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿท
.
.
And the best bits? The wine is cheap and there's no snow!!! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

THROWBACK THURSDAY to North Iceland
.
.
Remote and in the middle of nowhere circling the island ... a moment of sunshine and a rare tree on the barren landscape prompted me to ask hubby to stop so I could get out of the car to take this shot
.
.
Moments later, returning to the car, this is the place I slipped on the black road ice and broke my coccyx ... 11.25am on 30th January 2018
.
.
I landed so hard it took my breath away for a moment ... my legs went limp. Then instinct kicked in ... I picked up my phone and threw it at hubby (who'd got out of the car to see why I'd suddenly "disappeared"). "I'll be alright" I said, "just give me a moment"
.
.
I reached and grabbed hold of the car tyre and pulled my body off the main highway to avoid oncoming traffic, as I recalled the travel instructions "never stop on the main road". This is exactly why.
.
.
It all happened in seconds, and minutes later my legs worked enough to get back in the car as I vowed never to do that again! Just like my fall into a French canal 18 months ago, It could have been much more serious
.
.
That night I noticed the bruise on my coccyx was strangely circular, massive and black as night. The bruise is now gone but pain in still present ... gradually healing
.
.
In hindsight ot probably wasn't the best decision I'd made ... but it did make for an adventurous travel story ... and I collected another life lesson
.
.
Now I can laugh about it ... because in life it's not what happens to you ... it's the lessons you learn along the way that count!
.
.
Have you made decisions that in hindsight probably weren't the best? What lessons did you learn? And can you laugh about it now?

Funerals have a way of bringing your own mortality into sharp focus ...
.
.
I sat in the church pew and silently watched the familiar procedures, listening to the carefully selected music that tugged at the strings of my heart. The room was filled with love ... an almost overwhelming outpouring of gratitude for a family grieving the loss of their matriarch - a woman who had raised 5 children and given so much of her life in service of others
.
.
My older brother sat at the other end of my pew with his wife and, two rows ahead, my own aging parents ... Birth, life, death ... the inevitable cycle that love, nor desire nor science can halt
.
.
There was never any question that I wouldn't be there to show my respect and gratitude ... not only for a woman I knew as my friend's mum, but to support my friend. For he, despite there being 29 years of water well and truly under the bridge, is still family. But an unexpected thing happened for me that morning which starkly impacted me
.
.
Although I didn't remember him at first, and despite all those years, my friend's father recognised me and called me by name ... ever the gentleman saying I hadn't aged a bit - what a charmer! On chatting with Tom longer (and hearing about his activities and medical issues) the lines of his face and his cheeky grin gradually became so familiar again until it was like no time had passed at all. I could have chatted with Tom for hours and I was truly sad to bid him farewell.
.
.
They say that if you have a connection with someone, that no matter the time or distance that passes, when you meet again it feels like you last saw them yesterday ... I've experienced this before with friends over a few years, but never with someone I knew so briefly and so long ago. It was truly a special moment
.
.
Whatever the moment is for you, don't let it pass by. All we have in this life is a series of moments, so make each one special ... and thanks Tom for making mine

I'm a spiritual person, but not tired to any particular religion ... in fact I'd favor Buddhism if I had to choose one
.
.
But I do quite like churches ... I marvel at the time, effort and money that man has spent on building huge religious monuments to honor a (some might say mythical) figure of man's own creation
.
.
I marvel how many churches have stood the test of time ... through war, famine and occupation. I wonder why so many of these events in history have occurred in the name of religion for the ultimate supremacy and oppression of others
.
.
For me churches are architecturally beautiful places of serene introspection ... regardless of their religious denomination
.
.
And I wonder, if humanity and its leaders truly walked this earth with the compassion and love they preach, why this little green and blue planet isn't a more progressive and peaceful place, where it works for 100% of humanity

Salmon Gravlax, Horseradish Crรจme Fraรฎche, Lemon Pear, Brioche, Salmon Pearls, Dill Fronds
.
.
The only thing I didn't make from scratch was the brioche because I didn't have time to bake a savory gluten free sponge cake and wanted real French baked brioche from France (French flour has a different type of gluten I don't react to ... in moderation). Not local though ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
.
.
Not much I'll change on this dish except the presentation ... and everyone wanted more lemon pear!
